The O'Brien Institute for Public Heath is pleased to announce that 11 of our members were recipients of funding from the CIHR Fall 2024 project grant competition to support their public health research. Read below for the list of winners and their projects.

Dr. Mohammed Almekhlafi, MD, A randomized controlled trial of adjunctive intraarterial tenecteplase vs standard of care following endovascular thrombectomy in patients with large vessel occlusion stroke (REACT).

Dr. Darren Brenner, PhD, The REFRAME Project - Rapid Evaluation FRAmework for the Modification of Cancer ScrEening Guidelines.

Dr. Winson Cheung, MD, Generating Synthetic Data for Oncology Use Cases to Facilitate Multi-Jurisdictional Research.

Dr. Oluwatomilayo Daodu, MD, The RESPECT Study - Responsive Engagement of Surgical Patients for Equitable Care and Treatment: Transforming Surgical Processes for Anti-Racist Practice.

Dr. Zahinoor Ismail, MD, Biomarkers and Mild Behavioural Impairment (BAMBI) - Sample Enrichment for Alzheimer Disease Biomarker Positivity.

Dr. Gilaad Kaplan, MD, Managing the Burden of Inflammatory Bowel Disease over the Next Decade: A National Study of the Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (CanGIEC).

Dr. Raynell Lang, MD, Trauma Related Experiences; evaluating Impact, enhancing Understanding and Mobilizing interventions to improve outcomes among People with HIV (TRIUMPH).

Dr. Alexander Leung, MD, Nuclear Imaging for Subtyping Primary Aldosteronism.

Dr. Maria Jose Santana, PhD, Implementing and evaluating an adolescent and child measurement-based care program in Alberta's mental health care system (INSIGHT).

Dr. Bukola Salami, PhD, A Participatory Action Research Project to Promote the Mental Health of Black Children in Alberta.

Dr. Leslie Skeith, MD, The PARTUM (Postpartum Aspirin to Reduce Thromboembolism Undue Morbidity) Trial.
