Farewell and thank you, Dr. Paul Ronksley
The O’Brien Institute for Public Health extends its deepest thanks and best wishes to Dr. Paul Ronksley as he steps down from his role as Associate Scientific Director, Health Systems.
Since stepping into the role in early 2024 Paul has played a pivotal role in advancing the Institute’s Health Systems portfolio and championing the Learning Health Systems (LHS) strategy. Under his leadership, the LHS program launched its first Catalyst Grant competition, funding seven innovative early-stage projects; convened strategic retreats to align key data centres; developed KPIs to input into the Cumming School of Medicine’s strategic plan; and helped position the Institute as a national leader in health data integration and systems-oriented research. The Better Health portfolio also awarded 3 student travel awards to date in 2025.
A highly accomplished researcher, Paul brought to the role his deep expertise in access to care and cost containment for patients with multimorbidity, as well as a collaborative spirit and a clear vision for embedding research into health care delivery. He worked to foster partnerships across Alberta’s health delivery pillars, align research with provincial priorities, and build momentum toward a shared goal: transforming health care so that sustainable, high-quality care is available to all.
We are grateful for Paul’s leadership, thoughtfulness, and commitment to impact. His legacy lives on in the strong foundation he helped build that will continue to support systems-driven collaboration, data-informed decision-making, and meaningful health improvements for all.
Thank you, Paul, for everything you’ve contributed to the Institute and to public health in Alberta and beyond. We wish you continued success in your next chapter.
