Inaugural festival celebrates the depth and breadth of dance research
The University of Calgary School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) is set to introduce the University of Calgary Movement Research Festival (MoRF), a festival that celebrates the depth and breadth of dance research on campus and around the globe. This inaugural festival, set to be held over 12 days, will take attendees in the vibrant world of dance through a series of performances, a conference and film screenings.
But MoRF isn't just a festival; it's a testament to the commitment of the School of Creative and Performing Arts to the evolution and advancement of dance. It aims to bridge the gap between academia and artistry, creating a space where dance can be explored, celebrated and evolved.
Dance Unleashed: TransFoRM
Kicking off on Nov. 24, MoRF begins with TransFoRM, an evening program that promises to push the boundaries of innovation in dance. Featuring a stellar lineup of choreographers, including Calgary-based talents Mario Obeid and Zaria Rajha, Roma Thakore and Kala Bhavan of Calgary, Rufi Oswaldo, Michèle Moss and Kevin Fraser, the event sets the stage for a mesmerizing exploration of movement and expression.
Dance Research Illuminated: UCalgary Dance Research Conference
On Nov. 30, MoRF shifts gears to spotlight the academic side of dance with the UCalgary Dance Research Conference. This conference will provide a platform for faculty, staff, and both graduate and undergraduate students to present the latest findings in dance studies and dance science research. Free admission.
MoRFlix: Where dance meets the silver screen
On Dec. 1, MoRFlix debuts, presenting a collection of dance films by UCalgary students, faculty and alumni that guarantees a captivating visual experience. This digital storytelling through the lens of dance offers a unique perspective on the intersection of film and dance.
Dance@Noon: Showcasing the works of dance major students
The festival draws to a close with Dance@Noon from Dec. 4 to 6. This noon-hour program will feature the works of third-year BFA dance majors. It's a chance to witness emerging talents as they take the stage and share their creative visions. Free admission.
