Summer Research Assistantships

We recruit undergraduate students at UCalgary to contribute to aging-related research projects supported by our Centre. Preference is given to undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of full-time study and have an interest in aging. These assistantships provide employment from May 1 to August 31.

Inquire

You should contact us by January to determine if opportunities are available for the upcoming summer and learn about potential research projects. Be prepared to provide us with a current resume and contact information for references should there be opportunities.

Apply for funding

You should apply for internal and external funding to cover part of your salary. Applications are typically due in February, and often require input from prospective supervisors as well as signatures from faculty or department leadership.

Complete the paperwork

Once a decision is made about your funding applications, we will provide you with paperwork to complete the hiring process.

Graduate Research Assistantships

We recruit master’s and doctoral students at UCalgary to contribute to more methodologically advanced aging-related projects supported by our Centre. We encourage students with an interest in aging to inquire about available opportunities. The start date of these assistantships, length of employment, and number of hours of work per week will vary based on the project and our funding.

Placement Requirements

  • Must be a current UCalgary student
  • Students must have an interest in aging-related work
  • Students must be in good academic standing

Check for eligibility

To determine whether you can receive course credit for your practicum or field placement with us, consult your course instructor or either the undergraduate or graduate program office in your faculty or department. Instructors and staff should contact us to learn more about the experiences we can provide for students.

Schedule an interview

Students not completing a course-based placement should contact us to arrange an interview so we can learn about your experiences and interests. Also provide us with a current resume and the application form for your faculty or department before the interview. If you are the successful candidate, we will complete the supervisor portion of this form.

Submit your application

Submit your completed application to the designated person in your faculty or department. Check your UCalgary email for important follow-up information from us.
