Interest Groups

 

UCalgary and other academic organizations offer interest groups specifically for trainees. These groups provide valuable opportunities to connect with peers who share your interests in aging-related topics, while also helping you develop professional and research skills.

Gerontological Society of America (GSA)The oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization dedicated to research, education, and practice in the field of aging. GSA hosts regular webinars and an annual scientific meeting. Note: Membership is required to access most events and resources. It is free for undergraduate students and low cost for graduate students.Webpage
Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG)Canada’s leading multidisciplinary association for researchers, students, and professionals in the field of aging. CAG hosts an annual scientific meeting and supports Student Connection, a network of students interested in aging. Note: Membership is required to join. It is low cost for students.Webpage
Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS)Supports clinicians and trainees in providing quality healthcare to older adults and advocates for health policies that address the needs of an aging population. CGS hosts an annual scientific meeting and supports the National Geriatrics Interest Group, a student-led network focused on advocacy and education in the care of older adults. Note: Membership is required to join. It is free for undergraduate students.Webpage
Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI)A collaborative that brings together healthcare, science, industry, not-for-profit, and government to drive innovation in aging and brain health. CABHI’s Science Collaborative offers free opportunities for trainees to develop skills in innovation and engage with diverse stakeholders. Note: Membership is required but free.Webpage
AGE-WELLCanada’s technology and aging network, connecting researchers, organizations, older adults, and caregivers. AGE-WELL supports the independence, health, and quality of life of older adults through innovative technologies and services. Its EPIC (Early Professionals, Inspired Careers) Program offers students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career researchers funding, training, and mentorship.
