Centre on Aging Roles

Fall & Winter Assistantships

We recruit undergraduate and graduate students at UCalgary to support aging-related projects led by our Centre. Students with an interest in aging are encouraged to ask about available opportunities. The start date, duration, and weekly hours of these assistantships will vary depending on the project and available funding. Most of these assistantships offer paid employment.

Summer Assistantships

We also recruit undergraduate students at UCalgary to support aging-related summer projects. Preference is given to students who have completed at least two years of full-time study and who demonstrate an interest in aging. These assistantships usually provide paid employment from May 1 to August 31. Students interested in these opportunities should follow the steps outlined below.

Contact us

Contact us by December to learn about available opportunities and potential projects for the upcoming summer. If selected, you will need to provide a current resume and reference contact information.

Apply for funding

Once opportunities are confirmed, apply for funding (such as PURE) to support your compensation. Most applications are due in January or February and require input from a supervisor and signatures from faculty or department leadership.

Complete the paperwork

After a funding decision has been made, we will provide the necessary paperwork to complete your hiring.

  • You must demonstrate a clear interest in aging
  • You must be in good academic standing

Confirm your eligibility

Check with your course instructor or your program office (undergraduate or graduate) to determine if you are eligible to receive course credit for an internship or practicum with us. Instructors and staff may also contact us directly to learn more about available opportunities.

Schedule a meeting

If your placement is not part of a course, contact us to schedule a meeting. Submit your resume and any required placement forms from your faculty or department. If the placement is a good fit, we will complete the supervisor section of the form.
