Membership Agreement & Application

The Centre on Aging is an interdisciplinary hub within the O’Brien Institute for Public Health in the Cumming School of Medicine. It connects researchers, educators, and clinicians across UCalgary who are engaged in aging-related work. The Centre promotes and supports academic initiatives that advance knowledge, innovation, and practice aimed at improving the health and well-being of older adults.

Membership in the Centre offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic academic community committed to improving the lives of older adults. Members gain access to valuable resources and support for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Membership Criteria

To be eligible for membership, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Have an Academic Appointment at UCalgary

You must hold an academic appointment at UCalgary or be retired from one. This includes all faculty ranks—Assistant, Associate, or Full—in either teaching and research or teaching-focused roles. Adjunct and Clinical Professors, both current and retired, are also eligible.

Be Actively Involved in Aging-Related Work

You must be engaged in work related to aging or older adults. This can include research, teaching, or clinical activities.

Membership Expectations & Responsibilities

By joining the Centre, members commit to supporting its vision and mission and actively contributing to its work. Specifically, members are expected to:

  • Support Centre Operations: Serve on Centre committees and working groups that guide its strategic direction and initiatives.
  • Contribute to Key Areas of Focus: Engage in research, teaching, or training related to aging to foster a productive academic environment.
  • Advance Research and Education Goals: Design and implement research or educational activities that align with the Centre's objectives.
  • Foster Collaboration and Innovation: Work with other members of the Centre to share expertise and collaborate on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects.
  • Participate in Centre Events: Attend and contribute to Centre-hosted events such as symposiums and workshops to support networking and knowledge exchange.
  • Acknowledge Centre Support: Recognize the Centre's contributions in publications, presentations, and media appearances by citing it in acknowledgment sections or public communications, where appropriate. To include the Centre's logo, please contact us directly.
  • Permit Data Use for Reporting: Allow the Centre to collect and use metrics related to your research or educational activities for review and reporting purposes.
  • Maintain Professional Standards: Uphold high standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in all interactions with the Centre, its members, and the broader community.

  • Collaborate on Projects and Initiatives: Be informed about projects and initiatives led by other members of the Centre who are seeking collaborators to contribute your expertise and expand the impact of your work.

  • Attend Centre Events: Receive invitations to Centre-hosted events such as symposiums, workshops, and networking sessions designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Access Meeting Space: Enjoy complimentary use of Centre meeting space on Foothills Campus for group discussions and presentations.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Take part in workshops, seminars, and training sessions focused on research skills, community engagement, and career advancement.
