Support for applicants from the Institute includes:

  • help identifying collaborators or community partners
  • internal peer review
  • letters of support
  • possible project matching or ‘backstop’ funding (see below)

An additional stimulus to applying is being offered to members, related to the Institute’s Fall Catalyst deadline.  Modified Catalyst application forms will be advertised by the Institute well in advance of its October 1 deadline, to accommodate parallel submission of the CIHR application (or draft) for consideration of Institute funding.  A successful Catalyst application could therefore augment the funding and potential scope of a successful CIHR application, or help launch a project that is not eventually funded in the CIHR competition.

Of note, Program 1 is of special interest to the Institute’s developing Centre for Health Policy.  Projects focussing on the fiscal sustainability of the healthcare system could align with the existing deliverables of the Institute’s Healthcare Sustainability Initiative, and thereby be eligible for significant funding through that program.

Watch for further communications on this topic.  Contact melanie.columbus@ucalgary.ca for questions related to Program 1, and iph@ucalgary.ca for any other questions.
