About Our Name
Though our names suggest otherwise, the Brenda Strafford Centre on Aging is not part of the Brenda Strafford Foundation. We operate independently of the Foundation. As a Centre within the O’Brien Institute for Public Health, we are part of the University of Calgary. Our mandate is to promote interdisciplinary research and education in aging within the University, work with community organizations to take advantage of the opportunities that are arising from societal aging, and inform public policy. As reflected by our name, the Brenda Strafford Centre on Aging was made possible by financial support from the Brenda Strafford Foundation, and we value our on-going relationship with the Foundation. As of July 2021, we have relocated to space within the Foundation’s newest assisted living and long-term care facility, Cambridge Manor, but continue to operate as a University of Calgary entity.
