Meet the team behind your favourite content
Ana DuCristea
Ana is a final-year computer science student who splits her time between coding projects and writing a personal blog about student life and food, which she has maintained since her first year. Through both, she focuses on making complex topics approachable.
An avid fan of the science fiction, action, and comedy genres, she also has a small collection of vintage calculators and is the founder of the UCalgary Cheese Club.
My hot take about uni life is that you get the same energy you put into it, even at a “commuter” school!
Ansharah Shakil
Ansharah is in her final year of English. She is currently completing her Honours Project comparing the works of three female British writers, which was partly inspired by studying abroad in England last year. She is extremely passionate about writing and about engaging with the city’s local arts and culture scene.
When she isn’t studying or working, she’s probably rereading her favourite books or rewatching her favourite shows for the hundredth time. Her favourite film is When Harry Met Sally. She could not survive university without her earphones and daily commute playlist.
Kemi Adeyinka
Kemi is a fourth-year Communications and Media Studies major pursuing a minor in African Studies. Like most of the world, she developed an average weekly screen time of immeasurable hours on social media and decided to harness her scrolling talents for good.
She enjoys filming and editing short-form media content and uses her “chronically online” talents to stay up to date with the latest trends. When she’s not working or in class, you can usually find her with her nose in a book or writing questionable poetry for all 5 of her Substack subscribers.
The most interesting class she’s ever taken was Feminist Media Studies (COMS 479) for a number of reasons; with the main one being that only texts by women and women of color were used in the course.
Priya Migneault
Priya is in her fourth year and triple-majoring (!!!) in Communications and Media, Global Development, and International Indigenous Studies. She is a Métis content creator, splitting her time between the general office and the Writing Symbols Lodge. Last year, she took a semester abroad in France and studied at Sciences Po, while traveling across Europe on her weekends.
In her free time, you can find Priya hiking in the Rockies, skating, catching up on politics, reading, jamming out to Sabrina, Taylor, and/or Noah Kahan, and writing. Her favourite book series to reread is Throne of Glass.
In the spirit of 2016 throwbacks, Priya could not survive university without her Hydro Flask.
Veronica Kjolberg
Veronica is a third-year undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary. Majoring in English with a minor in Communication and Media Studies, she is passionate about all things journalism, media, and videography. Following these interests, she will provide support to the university’s student content strategy as a Student Content Creator. Outside of her studies, she spends much of her free time reading, creative writing, and journaling.
If I could only get food from one place on campus, it would definitely be BakeChef! :)
Jason Allatt
Jason is a fourth year communication and media studies student with a background in radio broadcasting. Jason is a passionate writer both academically and creatively most often writing too much detail for his dnd campaign or reading the great literary works of our time (comics).
Best Profs I’ve had at UCalgary are Dr. Suzette Mayr and Dr. Ron Glasberg, if you can take a class with them do it, they provide a perspective like nothing else
Kai Ern Lee
Kai is a third-year psychology student in the Faculty of Arts. Originally from Malaysia, she has travelled to many countries, with New Zealand and Japan being her favourites. In her free time, Kai enjoys doing art, cooking, and playing video games, currently obsessing over Slay the Spire. She also has a hamster named Pickle!
I like the look of handwritten notes, but I usually stick to digital because I can type much faster than I can write.
Tien (Winnie) Dinh
Winnie is a third-year student in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Communications and Media Studies with a minor in Visual Studies and Art History. When she’s not creating content, you’ll likely find her painting in her free time, swimming to reset her thoughts, or taking long walks and quietly observing the world around her.
Fun fact: her English name is Winnie, inspired by Winnie the Pooh, a character she admires for finding meaning in small, gentle moments.
The most interesting class I've ever taken is LING 223 - Language and Advertising with Professor Winters.
