Biography

Elissa Rennert-May is an Infectious Diseases physician and an assistant professor at the University of Calgary in the Departments of Medicine, Community Health Sciences, and Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases. She is a co-investigator on a Government of Alberta grant for the Alberta One Health Consortium.

Education and Training

Elissa Rennert-May completed her medical degree at the University of Toronto and specialty training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the University of Alberta. She also completed an advanced fellowship in Antimicrobial Stewardship at the University of Calgary. Her Master of Science degree in Health Economics was completed at the University of Calgary.

Research Interests and Expertise

Dr. Rennert-May does research related to health economics and health services particularly in the areas of antibiotic stewardship/antibiotic resistance and infection prevention and control. She is currently working on projects exploring prevention of surgical site infections and the economic burden associated with these infections
