Mark Hofmeister


PhD Student


Biography

Mark practiced clinically as a registered nurse for five years on internal medicine and oncology wards in Calgary before returning to University study health economics. This decision was driven by a need to understand and contribute to evidence-informed decision-making in health care. Currently, Mark is a PhD student, supervised by Dr. Fiona Clement, and recipient of the University of Calgary Eyes High Doctoral Recruitment award. In addition to continued clinical practice, he works as a research analyst with the Health Technology Assessment Unit, contributing to evidence synthesis, including meta-analysis and indirect treatment comparisons, data analysis, and the development of decision analytic models and budget impact analyses for medical devices.

Education and Training

Mark completed a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Lethbridge, and a Bachelor of Sciences in biological sciences and a Master of Science in health economics at the University of Calgary.

Research Interests and Expertise

Mark’s research interests are focused on health technology reassessment, prescription drugs and drug policy, administrative data analysis, and decision analytic modelling.
