Aging-Specific Catalyst Opportunity

The Brenda Stafford Centre on Aging is a cross-faculty, interdisciplinary organization embedded in the O’Brien Institute for Public Health. The Centre on Aging aims to build capacity in interdisciplinary aging research undertaken by faculties across the University of Calgary. The purpose of this catalyst grant is to support faculty members conducting early-stage research projects with an aging focus and assist them in leveraging larger external funding. The number of grants available each year is determined by the Centre on Aging’s leadership. A maximum of $20,000 will be awarded per research project, though $10,000 is generally provided.

Eligibility and Alignment

Successful proposals will:

  • Aim to improve the lives of older adults or the aging population
  • Be led by a PI who is an O’Brien Institute member
  • Include a research team that is interdisciplinary in composition

Reporting Requirements

Faculty members who receive catalyst funding from our Centre on Aging must submit an outcome report annually, based on the date the grant was awarded. These reports enable our Centre to track outputs and impacts from our funding programs. The University of Calgary’s Brenda Strafford Centre on Aging should be acknowledged in all materials resulting from the research supported by this grant, such as publications and presentations. Faculty members who wish to use our logo should contact us at bscoa@ucalgary.ca.
