The O'Brien Institute is pleased to announce the winners of our Population Health catalyst competition. This award provided funding for four projects that aligned with the Institute's Healthier Populations goal and were deemed likely to leverage external funding and societal impacts.

Dr. Jenine Leal, PhD

Evaluating the effectiveness of the enhanced masking directive in Alberta, Canada during the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 respiratory seasons

This project aims to contribute higher quality evidence on non-pharmacological interventions (NPIs) specifically masking policies in healthcare settings, to inform decision-making during future viral respiratory infection outbreaks and pandemics.

Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Perpetration in Canada and Australia: Who Uses Violence, How, and Why

This project gather diverse data to inform and influence the prevention of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) in Canada.

Building evaluation capacity of the Alberta Region Resolution Health & Cultural Support Program Workforce

The Resolution Support Workforce is a group of individuals who provide support and resources to survivors of Indian Residential Schools.This project aims to develop a robust and culturally congruent evaluation framework in partnership with the Resolution Support Workforce to grow capacity to track impacts, improve quality and coordination of the work, and set standards among workers.

Dr. Shelina Jamal, MD

Collection of equity stratifier data of patients enrolling in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Follow-Up Clinic

This project aims to assemble a study team including patient and family partners to demonstrate that we can feasibly collect Centre for Health Information (CIHI) equity stratifiers on all Pediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU) patients attending the PICU follow-up clinic in a culturally sensitive and meaningful way.
